Greetings and Happy Thanksgiving!
I'm sure everyone is busy enough so I'll keep the newsletter short and sweet. No recipes and no swap box this week. Boxes will be ready for pick up today earlier than usual (12:30 for Durham-Hale St. & Cornwallis; 1:30 for Chapel Hill/Carrboro) to give you a head start on holiday cooking.
Storage tips: sweet potatoes should be stored above 55°F (I keep mine in a kitchen cabinet; unlike regular potatoes, exposure to light will not cause greening but it may induce them to form sprouts eventually....maybe a good science experiment for the kids?). Carrots and leeks will keep in the crisper drawer of the fridge (be sure to put the leeks in a plastic bag first); carrots will keep for several weeks at least, leeks for a couple weeks (although the green tops will suffer). I have kept the spinach in my fridge for up to 2 weeks, but is best used within a week.
Only three more deliveries after today (12/4, 12/11, 12/18). Next week look forward to kale, rutabaga, and possibly Brussels sprouts!
