What's going on at the farm?

Hey folks! Things are going well here at the farm, we are very excited about this cooler weather we have been having, what a treat!  It hasn’t been raining as much either, so we have not lost too many more pepper plants to the Southern Stem Blight I talked about in the last two newsletters.  That means we actually have some peppers for you this week!  Having lost half the crop, there aren’t as many as I would have liked to give you all, but you will all get a taste so that is good.  Full shares have received Poblanos, a dark green slightly spicy pepper that is good to add to dishes as a flavoring.  Be careful, this is not a green bell pepper!  You can freeze your Jalapenos, so don’t feel pressure to eat them all at once.  You can just pop them whole in a ziplock bag and put them in the freezer, taking them out one at a time throughout the winter as you wish.

We will have basil in a couple weeks, a lot of it so that you can all make a nice batch of pesto to freeze for winter.  The eggplant slowed down for a bit but is flowering strong again so we will have more of that in a couple of weeks.  The second planting of tomatoes is starting to pick up so we will have more of those for you next week and beyond.

Amazingly enough, we are already ¾ of the way through our season, leaving only five more deliveries after this one.  For those of you I have not mentioned this to, both Beth and Becca (who work for me) are planning a small fall CSA to start a week or two after mine ends and to run for about ten weeks.  They are going to be growing here at the farm.  If any of you are interested in signing on to receive some fall greens, broccoli, and root crops let me know and I can pass on your email to them.

That is all for now.  Hope you enjoy everything!  Elise.
